Stoneware pottery mug with soft matt vanilla glaze, with impressed design. The perfect mug for a tea or coffee drinker.
Handmade ceramics process:
These mugs are made from a toasted buff stoneware clay rolled out flat into slabs. Each mug shape is cut out by hand and formed into the body of the mug. I use handcrafted stamps to impress the design into the wet clay. The seam where I join the sides of the mug is left visible, as part of the design. A circular base is cut and a strip of clay is curved and added for the handle.
The ceramic mugs are fired in the kiln to 1000 degrees (the bisque fire) which dries and strengthens them sufficiently for it to be glazed. They are dip glazed in a matt vanilla glaze before I fire them again to 1250 degrees.
The process of using slabs of clay to create these mugs results in each mug having an irregular shape (rather than being perfectly circular), which gives each mug it's own character and unique personality, which adds to its charm.
Each mug is individually crafted so no two are exactly alike and each much takes approximately 3 weeks to make from start to finish, including making, drying, bisque firing, glazing and final high firing.
This listing is for one mug, the perfect mug for tea or coffee.
